After an exciting ODI series opener between India and Sri Lanka ended in a tie, both countries will aim to come out victorious in game two at R Premadasa Stadium. Asalanka made key breakthroughs when he took Shivam Dube’s wicket as he attempted to hit six off the last ball of his innings. IND vs SL 3rd ODI
Charith Asalanka-led Sri Lanka created history when they defeated Rohit Sharma’s side at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo for the first time in 27 years in an bilateral ODI series. Avishka Fernando made history for Sri Lanka while Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis provided vital support as they helped their hosts score 249/6 runs from 50 overs.
India struggled early as their batsmen struggled against Sri Lankan spinners. Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed for 31 in the 12th over, prompting speculation that India may lose. Thankfully, however, a determined performance by Shikhar Dhawan in the final 10 overs kept India competitive and kept them in contention for victory.
Axar Patel was responsible for Pathum Nissanka being dismissed in the 24th over, when his attempted slog sweep took an edge caught by Rishabh Pant and was caught off top edge. With Avishka Fernando at the crease and looking poised to score heavily.
Mendis made an impressive start to his innings by hitting a lofted shot over extra cover for four runs and later added two more with a cut shot past backward point. Unfortunately he was given out by an umpire as being out-LBW; this decision was overturned on review as the ball clearly pitched outside leg; eventually he was run out for 59 runs.
