RR vs LSG

Rajasthan Royals host Lucknow Super Giants at Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur for their opening match of the season, as led by Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals who hold an edge in head-to-head records against LSG; but an inspired performance from LSG could make for an interesting contest.

The Royals won the toss and elected to bat first, quickly amassing 193/4 thanks to an incredible innings from captain Samson who scored an astonishing 82 off 33 balls with two fours and sixes before being joined by team-mate Jos Buttler who added another 71 off 57 balls before just falling short of reaching 100 runs.

Rashiv Shah made an impactful contribution with his bat for RR, scoring 53 off 41 balls and contributing two fifties each for their home side. Ravi Bishnoi and Sandeep Sharma also played their parts with fifty runs scored each.

Amit Mishra bowled his first over and conceded a few runs; Krunal Pandya on the other end however was outstanding, conceding only 24 runs from four overs bowled by him. Mohsin Khan and Yash Thakur struggled however and conceded many runs during their spells with new ball bowling.

Spider-cam wires were found scattered around the pitch, prompting a brief delay before play resumed with RR leading 3-0 in the opening over. To stem their momentum early on, Yash Thakur bowled three balls of his first over that allowed only three runs to break it up and put an end to their early advantage.

Royals quickly picked up another wicket in the second over, as Boult struck Devdutt Paddikal with a bouncer on the back of his head, sending a signal for concussion checks before clearing him for play. Physios were called out, however; and ultimately cleared Devdutt Paddikal to continue.

RR picked up two more wickets in the third over when Yash Thakur and Mohsin Khan both fell for ducks to Amit Mishra and Sachin Goyewada respectively, showing their bowling attack has great potential this season to dominate on any surface.

Ayush Badoni and Marcus Stoinis put on an 81 run partnership off 30 balls before Stoinis went for an aggressive shot against Ashwin that hit over midwicket; Dhruv Jurel took an excellent catch at the boundary to keep Ayush’s scorecard moving along towards an expected target of 154 for victory.

IPL 2025

Indian Premier League (IPL) has enjoyed immense popularity over time and this year will be no different. The 2025 IPL will include 74 matches across 13 cities. It kicks off on Saturday March 22 with Kolkata Knight Riders hosting Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens for its inaugural matchup.

Ten teams will be divided into two groups for the league stage, playing home and away against each team within their group twice as well as one designated team from another group once. Winning earns two points while tying earns one, with only the top four advancing to playoffs.

Many star players have returned to the IPL this season, including former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (looking to add another trophy to his collection of trophies), record run-chaser KL Rahul and Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc who has joined Delhi Capitals this season.

Rajasthan Royals look set to extend their winning streak to four games after defeating LSG earlier this season. Their batting has been led by Sanju Samson who is well on track to becoming the first player ever to score a century in every IPL match.

Royals should remain wary of LSG after its triumphant performances against CSK last week, where KL Rahul’s side chased down 180 and 211 runs with just two wickets lost during each chase, respectively. Super Giants fans will be hoping for Mayank Yadav to make his long-awaited comeback after suffering an injury earlier in 2019.

Royals batsmen must perform at their best against LSG, led by Assam batsman Riyan Parag. Parag will be supported by experienced middle-order members such as Jos Buttler, Dhruv Gandhi and Varun Aaron; plus uncapped youngster Mohammad Siraj made his debut for LSG against KKR on Sunday – giving LSG an added edge in attack.

Royals won their previous match against LSG by seven wickets and will look to replicate this performance before an enthusiastic crowd at Ekana Cricket Stadium. A win will ensure they remain at the top of the points table.

Losing this match could result in them falling to fourth in the standings and ultimately end their hopes of defending their title, yet they can take heart in knowing they have an impressive record against Lucknow, winning three out of their last four meetings with them. Expect an entertaining match, where Sanju Samson will aim to maintain his excellent batting form against the team he helped win the title back in 2024; currently leading Orange Cap rankings with 318 runs from eight matches; hoping for an unbeaten 82 against LSG as soon as possible to maintain his good form against them and keep his bat going against LSG!
