India won the toss and elected to bat first, restricting Nepalese runs to only 96 runs over 41 overs with Chetan Sharma (3/22) and Madan Lal (3/11) taking their respective wickets for India.
India then easily chased down their target, with Yashasvi Jaiswal leading the charge with an outstanding 93 from 53 deliveries and leading India’s bowlers in finishing it in just 21.4 overs as Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, and Surinder Khanna all contributed with their bats to achieve victory.
Nepal suffered their second consecutive loss against India and now sits bottom of Group A table with zero points for this tournament – though debutants will no doubt take solace from being exposed in such an international environment.

After suffering an unexpected loss against Pakistan, India took control of their match against Nepal and triumphantly won with ease to start off their tournament campaign with three points secured.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Nepal’s openers got off to a quick start scoring 65 runs during powerplay overs, before losing wickets caused their innings to drag on until all their wickets fell and Nepal were all out for 230.
Though Nepal lost the toss, they started off well thanks to Gulshan Jha’s 57* and Karan KC’s 63* scores. Unfortunately, the rest of Nepal’s batsmen struggled against Indian bowlers on an unforgiving pitch that frustrated batters often leaving frustrated with their approach.

Jadeja made the most of it and left his opponent reeling. India earned their highest ever victory against them and went into their final appearance as clear favorites.
Virat Kohli handled himself confidently under pressure to remain unbeaten on 101 in 121 balls – equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries and 79 international hundreds in one match. Kohli was assisted by a strong Indian bowling unit which caused havoc with South African top order batsmen.
India opener Virender Sehwag was out for just two runs in the first over, and captain MS Dhoni was caught LBW by Lasith Malinga shortly thereafter. Gautam Gambhir and Kohli managed to put together a 109-run partnership before Gambhir was caught LBW by Malinga. Unfortunately, Malinga then dismissed Kohli too and caused mid-order collapse.

Nepal tied the first two games of their series before winning game three – beating Pakistan for the first time ever in an ODI. Their success provided much-needed motivation ahead of a critical clash against Ireland in round five of group stage play.
Nepal won this match by three wickets to qualify for the finals and regain their ODI status, thanks to Aasif Sheikh’s unbeaten 91 off 70 balls, Kushal Bhurtel-Sheikh partnership of 174 runs, and spinner Sandeep Lamichhane taking five-wicket haul – Nepal’s best ever five-wicket haul in an ODI at that time!
Nepal competed in two warm-up matches against Zimbabwe and Oman before competing in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. Nepal recorded two victories – including an incredible win by Gulsan Jha’s 57* and Karan KC’s four wicket haul – to post a total score of 268/8 against them during one warm-up match alone!
Nepal then traveled to Oman for their second warm-up match and won by an outstanding performance from all players across their squad, winning by 151 runs with just 63 balls remaining – led by Aasif Sheikh’s superb 81 not out and brilliant bowling from Karan KC and Sandeep Lamichhane respectively. They then went onto play their first ODI against England where they came back strong by two wickets; both Aasif Sheikh (80 not out) and Karan KC and Sandeep Lamichhane bowlers proved highly impressive in this match-up win!
