West Indies captain Shai Hope batted unbeaten throughout to lead his side to a series-clinching 202-run win against Pakistan, with Sherfane Rutherford also contributing significantly in the middle order for West Indies’ hopes of victory.
Mohammad Rizwan stated that Pakistan were hoping to bat first and that conditions might provide early aid to bowlers. He complimented Sherfane Rutherford on her impressive batting display in the West Indies Cricket Team vs Pakistan National Cricket Team match scorecard.

First ODI
On Friday, August 8, West Indies and Pakistan will play their inaugural ODI at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. Following their loss in the opening game, West Indies are looking to rebound quickly with an upset victory and set the tone for their series victory with victory.
Shai Hope won the toss and elected to field, citing moisture on the pitch and rain in the forecast as his rationale. Justin Greaves replaced Romario Shepherd in their starting XI; top order batsmen must score more quickly while middle order players like Sherfane Rutherford, Keacy Carty, and Roston Chase must be better at handling spin.
Pakistan held their nerve despite early wicket losses to post a competitive total, led by Hasan Nawaz’s impressive debutant score of 63 off 54 balls off 54 deliveries and supported by Hussain Talat and Shaheen Afridi who contributed significantly.
West Indies could not keep up their momentum and eventually were out with seven balls remaining; now heading into match two of this series in Karachi on Thursday August 12th.
Second ODI
West Indies have suffered eight straight defeats against Australia and Pakistan in ODI series, but finally broke their duck with an impressive 202-run victory in their second ODI at Brian Lara Stadium Tarouba Trinidad Tobago with captain Shai Hope’s unbeaten 104-ball knock leading them to 292-6 at Brian Lara Stadium Tarouba Trinidad Tobago; his innings contained five sixes and 10 fours as part of an unbroken seventh wicket stand of 110 runs with Justin Greaves that lasted around eight overs.
West Indies top order displayed signs of revival with all players reaching double figures; however, they couldn’t push on for an impressive score against Pakistan spinners such as Mohammad Nawaz and Abrar Ahmed, limiting run flow as Mohammad kept scoring while his misfiring partners Saim Ayub and Salman Agha continued leaking runs through mishitting middle overs.
West Indies had some hope of mounting a comeback thanks to Gudakesh Motie’s late fireworks but ultimately fell short by seven runs. Going forward, West Indies must improve their batting while bowlers Shamar Joseph and Sherfane Rutherford must ensure Pakistan batsmen do not reach double figures.
Shai Hope commended his side’s performance, noting they strive to get better with every game. He underscored the significance of handling spin better in middle overs, commending Sherfane Rutherford and Roston Chase for doing so effectively. Additionally, Hope stressed the need to balance aggression with discipline.
West Indies won the toss and chose to field in their second One-Day International (ODI), hoping to rebound from their five-wicket defeat in the opening match.
They made one change, replacing Romario Shepherd with Justin Greaves as they attempted to address weaknesses in their batting lineup. Shai Hope cited moisture on the pitch and rain forecast as potential decisive factors behind choosing chase rather than defend, also crediting Sherfane Rutherford and Keacy Carty’s support in middle order as important considerations when making his decision.
Third ODI
West Indies cricket took an important step toward their historic dominance on Friday with an emphatic win against Pakistan at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba in their third one-day international.
Shai Hope’s unbeaten 94-ball performance crowned off an outstanding display by Caribbean side led by bowling duo Gudakesh Motie and Roston Chase, with both showing excellent control of their bowling armouries.
Hope noted the win comes just days after attending a two-day summit in Barbados attended by legendary cricketers including Brian Lara and Clive Lloyd to identify strategies to return the West Indian game to international rankings.
Hope noted how positive results could be achieved if players “work together, remain focused, and adhere to a plan”.
Although Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd both reached three figures quickly for their hosts, their total was below what might have been on such an encouraging batting surface.
Only Hope’s six off Mohammad Nawaz’s opening spell kept the visitors alive with Hope making sure he followed up his initial six by hitting two more sixes off subsequent deliveries to maintain urgency in his innings.
Nawaz could not maintain his strike rate and was caught at deep square leg off Lewis in the seventh over, with Salman Agha falling victim to Lewis for a duck in his last over.
Mohammad Rizwan – playing in his first ODI after more than one year’s absence – was caught behind off Roston Chase while final wicket of Naseem Shah came via leg catch from Darren Bravo.
Pakistan struggled to maintain their innings as their innings unraveled after an explosive start and part-timers gave away runs too easily, leaving them in trouble.
Their difficulties were compounded when Saim Ayub was caught at backward point by Darren Seales in the ninth over and Babar Azam was traped lbw by Chase in the 21st over – neither event helping their cause.
Losing their captain was a devastating setback for the tourists, who had just suffered an agonising five-wicket defeat in their opening series match.
Smriti Singh also fell to Kim Garth who trapping her out front to end her record 121-ball knock which became one of the fastest centuries ever recorded in women’s one day international history.
Final ODI
West Indies captain Shai Hope scored an unbeaten century to lead his side to an emphatic 202-run win against Pakistan in the third and final one-day international. It marked their first bilateral series win in 34 years and ended an 8-match losing streak for Caribbean teams in this form of the game.
The visitors won the toss and elected to field, hoping to reverse their five-wicket defeat in the series opener. Their choice proved justified as four out of their top six reached double figures but were unable to build big scores; all out for 92 in 29.2 overs with Roston Chase and Guillermo St Leone taking two wickets each.
West Indies were always in control despite the underwhelming total they posted, as they gradually built on an initially slow start and quickly increased momentum.
Jayden Seales struck twice in the fourth over to reduce Pakistan to 62-5 before two more wickets fell before the final over. Hope’s match-defining innings featured five sixes and 10 fours over his 94 ball innings while creating a 96 run seventh-wicket partnership with Justin Greaves (43 not out off 24 deliveries).
Hope’s brilliant performance gave the hosts the support they needed against Pakistan’s seam attack. Mohammad Nawaz and Abrar Ahmed both bowled accurately but Abrar’s poor shot selection ultimately cost him his wicket when caught at point by Evin Lewis for 30.
As both teams will play on dry pitches with rain forecast, both teams hope to avoid making similar errors to what occurred in the opening match and take an early advantage in this one.
Windies relying heavily on Shamar Joseph and Motie for pace while Pakistan aiming to improve batting execution against spin and exploit home advantage will attempt to take control quickly.
With rain threatening to shorten the match, tactical adaptability and smart batting become even more crucial. Both teams will hope to clinch the series win and cement their place atop world rankings.
