IPL 2025

IPL 2025 was the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League, a professional Twenty20 cricket tournament. The competition started on 22 March and was scheduled to conclude three months later on 3 June; however, due to India-Pakistan tensions on 9 May it was suspended and resumed seventeen May with final set for 3 June; 10 teams participated across India playing 74 matches at 13 venues in total.

The last two teams in the table qualify for playoffs. Winners compete against one another in Qualifier 1, with the winner going on to compete against themselves in Eliminator; should either lose, the winner will advance into final.

After an exciting group stage, the race to capture the IPL trophy is underway. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings remain as two contenders; neither have claimed this accolade before. Furthermore, run-scorer and wicket-taker positions are extremely tight; stay tuned as BBC will provide live ball-by-ball commentary during all four play-off matches to follow this exciting finish!

Gujarat Titans remain in the top four despite suffering defeat against Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday evening, remaining only four points back from second place on the points table. Their next match against Chennai Super Kings provides another chance for Gujarat Titans to move closer towards one of two spots – but Jos Buttler could soon depart GT for national duty and further hinder their chances.

Shubman Gill and Priyansh Arya have been in impressive form for the Titans. Additionally, Sherfane Rutherford and B Sai Sudharsan have provided strong middle order performances. Jos Buttler has been one of the highlights for them with three consecutive half centuries scored for them by Jos Buttler alone! If the current form can continue, then the Titans could become formidable playoff contenders; otherwise MI and DC must drop both remaining games and finish on 15 points or higher to qualify as qualifying opponents for their playoff bids!

Schedule

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the revised schedule for the 2025 Indian Premier League, originally due to conclude on May 18. Due to India-Pakistan tensions, league stage was postponed; now 17 group matches and four playoff matches will resume before culminating with a grand finale taking place June 3.

Even after disruptions to its schedule, India Premier League (IPL) remains an international brand with an excellent record for safety and security in India. Each IPL team will play each other twice over, and only the top two from each group advance to playoffs. While BCCI makes every effort to ensure player movement within sensitive areas remains safe and secure during this tournament, some restrictions must be put in place in order to maintain player security.

Rescheduled IPL tournament will run from May 18-May 27, with two double-header days on both Sundays of the tournament – Punjab Kings (PBKS) will face Delhi Capitals (DC) during day play in Ahmedabad before Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Mumbai Indians (MI) later that evening matchup.

On May 20, Gujarat Titans (GSG) will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad during the day game before heading over to Jaipur in the evening to face Rajasthan Royals (RR). GSG are currently leading the IPL table, having outshone Royal Challengers Bangalore in their winning streak and moved ahead in contention for the crown.

Rishabh Pant’s brilliant batting has propelled Rajasthan to an outstanding position, and their top three of Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler have been stellar. But the middle order trio of Sherfane Rutherford, Shahrukh Khan and Tewatia must also contribute in order to maintain any hopes for playoff qualification – taking two wins will guarantee qualification, while one victory may suffice depending on results and net run rate.

The game against Rajasthan could provide them with their final chance – one win could suffice depending on results and net run rate depending on other results and net run rate!

Predictions

Gujarat Titans (GT) remain hopeful of reaching the top two, needing just one win to ensure a place. Even then, though, other teams could overtake them and overturn their plans; but should they triumph tonight they may well seal their fate!

They appeared poised to make significant headway on this goal when they hosted LSG in Ahmedabad on Wednesday but were foiled by slippery pitch conditions and an uncertain decision from umpires. In the second over of play, legspinner Rabada appeared to slip during his delivery stride but Hawk-Eye did not penalize him, something which would have allowed Marsh to reach his century off 64 balls while leaving LSG chasing an impressive total total score.

Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram also performed impressively for GT on a wet pitch, particularly Pooran who struck several sixes and hit two fours during his final over of the first innings before hole-outing off Ravi Bishnoi’s diving catch at long-on. Marsh was not alone among GT batsmen as many others such as Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram both made their mark batting against an excellent bowling attack from Durham on a damp surface.

Though not an impressive innings, Shardul Thakur and Ayush Badoni delivered some convincing bowling performance to give him confidence going into his next match. Although GT lost both openers in succession, they managed to maintain their lead thanks to some solid bowling from them both.

Other batsmen struggled on the slushy ground, kept at bay by an effective effort from GT bowlers. A few more catches by Markram and Samad enabled them to hold on and reach halfway stage of play.

Live streaming

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant will go head-to-head at Narendra Modi Stadium for an important IPL clash on Thursday, vying for supremacy in the playoff race and taking an important step toward securing home fixtures. This clash will be shown live on Star Sports Network India while you can also stream it using JioHotstar app and website.

GT’s revival this season has been driven by their impressive top order. B Sai Sudarshan, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler have combined for 16 half-centuries and one century between them; and their bowlers Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, R Sai Kishore have taken 21 wickets combined while Kagiso Rabada’s return adds another element of firepower to their side.

LSG’s hopes of qualifying for a playoff berth have all but come to an end following their dispiriting six-wicket loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), so they will look to close out with an emphatic win against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh gave them a solid platform but their partnership quickly disintegrated; Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni will need to support them while Shardul Thakur and Ravi Bishnoi must ensure they don’t give away too many runs during early overs.

Weather forecast for Ahmedabad indicates a warm and humid evening, and an orange alert issued by India Meteorological Department suggests rain may play a part in this game; this should not impact its outcome significantly as scheduled kick off is set for 7:30 PM IST.
