India
Bangladesh will look to hand India their first defeat in this tournament when the two meet on Wednesday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India have yet to taste defeat in four matches and victory against Bangladesh could put them one step closer to making history by reaching the final.
Bangladesh has made incredible strides since their debut Test-playing team made their debut back in 2000 as a fringe member of the International Cricket Council (ICC). To gain full membership took them 34 matches.
Bangladesh gradually improved under coaches Jamie Siddons, Shane Jurgensen, and Chandika Hathurusinghe. However, during 2010s it began to form a solid side led by Mashrafe Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim along with some talented youngsters such as Tamim Iqbal. These coaching changes had significant results and Bangladesh became one of the strongest teams on tour at that point.
Unfortunately, however, Bangladesh have struggled to turn their success in ODIs and T20s into victories on the pitch. They failed to qualify for the 2021 World Cup despite possessing an impressive roster and were defeated by arch-rival Pakistan in the semi-final.
At 2022 World Cup they lost to England by 10 wickets; which seems an anomaly given Bangladesh have achieved so much over their history.
Litton Das (captain), Towhid Hridoy and Rishad Hossain’s top order bowlers – Mustafizur Rahman, Mohammad Saifuddin and Tanzim Hasan Sakib haven’t performed as expected during this tournament and are struggling for momentum. On Wednesday they will aim to extend their excellent record against Bangladesh by winning another T20 matchup.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh National Cricket Team, commonly referred to as Bangladesh national team is the national cricket team representing Bangladesh. Governed by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), they are full members of International Cricket Council with Test and One Day International status, playing officially sanctioned ICC tournaments as well as performing in Test series against other teams.
Bangladesh first played its inaugural Test match against India in 2000, marking their debut as one of ten Test-playing nations. Based out of Dhaka and led by Mushfiqur Rahman who took over from Shakib Al Hasan as captain in May 2022.
Bangladesh have managed to put themselves in an advantageous position to qualify for the final of the Asia Cup despite an initially disappointing start, thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s stellar 75-run innings against India that enabled them to reach 168/6 at the end of their innings.
Shubman Gill had a fortunate escape on the fourth ball of Nasum Ahmed’s over, when the ball popped between fielders at point and backward point and bounced. He tried taking the run but was sent back by Suryakumar Yadav.
Jasprit Bumrah bowled his opening over at an impressive strike rate of nearly six runs per over, nearly claiming two wickets but was unfortunate not to take one with two deliveries going mis-hitting both Saif Hassan on delivery 2 and Sanju Samson on delivery 3.
Bangladesh needs another 66 runs to win this match and have already lost two wickets against Hardik Pandya; both Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Tilak Varma fell victim to his bowling. A few more runs in the final over will put Bangladesh through to the final! NDTV Good Times provides up-to-the-minute updates of this game; tune in live here.
ODIs
India have done well to take advantage of a great pitch, taking full advantage of it and taking full advantage of Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah when required – both batsmen performed admirably throughout. India’s spinners proved particularly troublesome for Bangladesh who struggled against them.
Abhishek Sharma’s sublime first innings 75 led India to amass an impressive total of 168/6 but it wasn’t enough against Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack, led by Kuldeep Yadav (3/18) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/18). They limited them to just 127 in reply; only Saif Hassan managed double figures while Bangladesh will feel they let a win slip away.
Bangladesh stand-in captain Ali won the toss and elected to field in their home venue of Dubai. Bangladesh would look to end their winless run against an undefeated Indian side by mounting a competitive fight.
Even though they lost the 2025 Asia Cup final, Afghanistan have shown impressive performances recently and hope to build upon it with victory against India in the semi-finals. A win would give them the edge needed to go further into their campaign and use this as a springboard into phase two of their campaign.
India’s batting lineup has been strengthened with the inclusion of in-form Shubman Gill and a fit Hardik Pandya who is back to his best. But India still face issues at the top order with one early wicket being enough to disrupt their plans, while Bangladesh possess an experienced and potency batting unit which can generate big scores.
T20s
Both teams face off again in the Super 4 stage, where victory would give each a significant edge towards reaching the final. Set for Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 24 September, this match should prove exciting and interesting!
Both teams have won one game each in the group stage and will be looking to improve their chances of reaching the top two finish. It is impossible to ignore India’s superiority over South Africa based on how India have won 17 T20Is against them so far.
Bangladesh have not managed to keep pace with India despite Abhishek Sharma’s impressive 75 off 37 in their innings against Sri Lanka. Their batsmen have struggled with scoring big totals and instead relied on just a handful of players for big scores.
India’s bowlers, led by Kuldeep Yadav (3/18) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/18), have been outstanding. These two have limited Bangladesh to just one match-winning score from Saif Hassan at 69 not out.
Indian teams have started their Super 4 campaign with two victories, while Bangladesh have yet to secure one win so far. Bangladesh will look to break through in this crucial clash and secure their place in the final, while Indian sides could prove difficult opponents; let’s find out in coming days – stay tuned to CB for updates!

Kuldeep takes another wicket for Bangladesh; this time by dismissing Towhid Hridoy and helping bring them back into the game. However, he needs to remain more cautious as Bangladesh needs a swift recovery now.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to bat first against India under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy at Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday in an exciting yet low-scoring match that saw tempers flare as well as some contentious no-ball calls.
Bangladesh’s openers didn’t help themselves by playing some unwise shots, but Abhishek Sharma’s stunning 75 helped the side post 168/6 in their 20 overs. Hardik Pandya contributed 38 runs while Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube and Tilak Varma failed to provide much batting firepower.
Kuldeep Yadav bowled an efficient over to concede only four runs – his best so far in this tournament – thanks to Bangladesh batters mishitting his slower and straighter deliveries.
In his second ball with leg break he trapped Parvez Hossain Emon leg before and made him look silly before trapping him again leg before with leg break for leg before catch play which failed after trying a slog sweep at deep square leg instead found a fielder nearby.
